Clutch Replacement

Removal:
1. Remove drive belt as described in Section 3.1
Belt Replacement.
2. Remove 5/16x18 screw
which secures clutch assembly to crankshaft.
3. Loosen setscrew on clutch assembly. Pull clutch

from crankshaft. If a 3-jaw puller is

used, thread in screw
in crankshaft. Push against bolt head rather than
directly against shaft end.

4. Remove key
. Inspect key and keyways for signs
of shearing. Replace key if deformed or if edges
are rounded.
Installation:
1. Coat engine crankshaft with Alvania #2 or equivalent.

Install key
in keyway.
(b)
2. Slide clutch assembly
that keyway lines up with key. Tap with rubber mallet
if necessary. Tighten setscrew.
(c)
3. Replace washer
13 ft.lbs. (18 Nm).
(d)
and 5/16 washer
4-6 turns to protect threads
over crankshaft. Make sure

and screw
. Tighten to
