1.10 Control System

The Vertex control system is a redundant system
consisting of a central data acquisition computer
(DAq), a programmable logic controller (PLC) and
one or more analyzer modules.

analyzer modules and PLC are microprocessor
controlled and contain non-volatile memory.

1.10.1 Data Acquisition Computer

The data acquisition computer (DAq) is the central
processor for the Vertex System. It configures the
analyzers,
stores
network interface for data transfer to other
computers.
System display and operator control is through
an on-screen keyboard or an optional external
keyboard.
CAUTION
OPC on TCP/IP via Ethernet not
recommended for alarm annunciation.

1.10.2 Programmable Logic Controller

The Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is
the control system path between the DAq and
the
individual analyzers. The PLC polls the
analyzers for current information, activates relays
which may be connected to external alarms and
provides external communications.
