SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Battery Isolation - When disconnecting the battery, always disconnect the negative cable first
and then the positive cable afterwards (on vehicles with negative ground). When fitting the
battery, always connect the positive cable first and then the negative cable (on vehicles with
negative ground). On vehicles with positive ground, this sequence must be reversed.
It is always safer to make all electrical connections to the System harness with the battery
disconnected. However on certain vehicles, disconnecting the battery will upset other electronic
equipment or the vehicles' OBC. Always find out if disconnecting the battery is safe before
proceeding.
Battery Connection - Clean and grease the battery terminals in preparation for reconnection.
Note the polarity of the terminals. An incorrectly connected car battery can cause extensive
damage to the wiring system, the alternator and any electronic or transistorized accessory.
Connecting or disconnecting the battery while the engine is running can also damage these
components. Never connect or disconnect the battery when the engine is running.
Fuses - The purpose of fuses in a motor vehicle is to protect the vehicles electrical circuits. If for
some reason a circuit becomes overloaded, the fuse will blow. If this happens the wiring and the
component it serves will be protected from damage. The rating of each fuse is normally
specified on the fuse or fuse holder. Always ensure that a blown fuse is replaced with one of the
correct rating. If the replacement fuse also fails, check the component and wiring for a short
circuit. There is no safe substitute for a fuse. Bypassing a fuse can result in extensive damage if
there is a fault in a circuit or component. Always fit the fuses and fuse holders supplied with the
Ctrack Insure unit. A fuse must always be fitted in line with the positive supply lead to the unit,
as close to the source as possible. Preferably behind the vehicles fuse box.
