EV3000-D manual
1.1.1 Level
LEVEL controls the midpoint scene temperature setting that will be viewed on a display. A
low level setting results in cold scene temperatures being displayed in varying gray scale while
any hot temperatures in the scene are all at full scale (i.e. white in white hot). A high level
setting results in hot temperatures being shown in gray scale, with any cold temperatures being
displayed as black (again in white hot).
1.1.2 Auto Level Mode
The Auto Level mode will set the Level control to a point where most of the display lies within
the gray scale of the display. This mode will adjust the Level setting as the scene temperatures
change. For instance, if the EV3000-D thermal camera is scanned from a scene dominated by
warm objects (e.g. buildings and vehicles in the hot sun) to a scene dominated by cold objects
(e.g. boats on cool water) the Auto Level will automatically adjust the level to give a reasonable
display in each case. Without Auto Level, one scene or the other would be outside of the
dynamic range of the display.
1.1.3 Gain Control
Gain controls the range of scene temperatures that may be displayed by the camera and can be
adjusted from Low to High. A low gain setting results in a wide temperature span (high
dynamic range) being displayed but very small variations in scene temperature cannot be
distinguished (low resolution). A high gain setting enables very small differences in scene
temperature to be displayed (high resolution), but only over a smaller range of temperatures.
1.1.4 Auto Gain Mode
Auto Gain mode will automatically set the gain setting to accommodate the entire range of
temperatures in the scene.
1.1.5 Auto Span Mode
The EV3000-D thermal camera has a fully automatic mode, when both Auto-Level and Auto-
Gain are turned on which is called Auto-Span. The unit must be in Auto-Span in order for the
Histogram Equalization processing to be active.
