Adjusting the Flash Exposure Compensation

Just as with regular exposure compensation ( = 52), you can adjust the
flash exposure from –2 to +2 stops, in 1/3-stop increments.
Configure the setting by choosing
] menu ( = 23) > [Flash settings] >
[
[Flash exposure compensation].
The correction level you specified is now
displayed.
When there is a risk of overexposure, the camera automatically
adjusts the shutter speed or aperture value for flash shots to
reduce washed-out highlights and shoot at optimal exposure.
However, you can deactivate automatic adjustment of the shutter
speed and aperture value by choosing [
[Flash settings] > [Safety FE] > [Off].

Retain the flash output level.

Raise the flash and set it to [ ] or
[ ] ( = 61).

Record the flash output level.
Aim the camera at the subject to shoot
with the exposure locked. With the
shutter button pressed halfway, press the
button.
The flash fires, a circle is displayed
showing the metering range, and [ ] is
displayed, indicating that the flash output
level has been retained.

Compose the shot and shoot.
