Adjusting the Flash Exposure Compensation
Just as with regular exposure compensation ( = 74), you can adjust the
flash exposure from –2 to +2 stops, in 1/3-stop increments.
Raise the flash, press the [ ] button and
z
immediately turn the [ ] ring to choose
the compensation level, and then press
the [ ] button.
The correction level you specified is now
z
displayed.

When there is a risk of overexposure, the camera automatically
adjusts the shutter speed or aperture value during the flash shots
to reduce washed-out highlights and shoot at optimal exposure.
However, you can deactivate automatic adjustment of the shutter
speed and aperture value by accessing MENU ( = 30) and
choosing [
] tab ► [Flash Settings] ► [Safety FE] ► [Off].

You can also configure the flash exposure compensation by
accessing MENU ( = 30) and choosing [
Settings] ► [Flash Exp. Comp].
You can also access the [Flash Settings] MENU screen ( = 30)

when the flash is up by pressing the [ ] button and immediately
pressing the [
] button.

Shooting with the FE Lock

Just as with the AE lock ( = 74), you can lock the exposure for the flash
shots.

Raise the flash and set it to [ ]
(= 88).

Lock the flash exposure.
Aim the camera at the subject to shoot
z
with the exposure locked. With the
shutter button pressed halfway, press the
[
] button.
The flash fires, and when
z
[
] is displayed, the flash output level is
retained.
To unlock FE, release the shutter button
z
and press the [
] button again. In this
case, [
] is no longer displayed.

Compose the shot and shoot.
After one shot, FE is unlocked and [
z
no longer displayed.

FE Lock cannot be used with Touch Shutter ( = 42) or Touch
AF ( = 86), because touching the screen will cancel FE Lock.
