General Timing Information
Previous examples have used the internal measurement trigger and the internal pulse
generator to demonstrate basic operation of the network analyzer. This setup is suitable for
many applications in which the internal PRP and maximum duty cycle limitations are not
critical to measurement results. If your device is sensitive to pulse repetition period or duty
cycle you will need to learn more about how these are aected by the instrument state. The
following paragraphs provide information that can be used to predict the internal PRP for
dierent instrument states.
Network Analyzer Measurement Cycle
Figure 8-1 shows the general measurement process
ow of the network analyzer measurement
cycle. For the frequency domain point-in-pulse measurement and the pulse prole domain
measurement, the HP 8510 measurement cycle consists of making the measurement, setting up
for the next measurement, then waiting for the next trigger.
