Troubleshooting
Problem
Pump cycles, but paint only dribbles
or spurts when spray gun is trig-
gered.
Pressure is set at maximum but
cannot achieve a good spray pattern.
Spray gun stopped spraying.
When paint is sprayed, it runs down
the wall or sags.

Cause
Pressure is set too low.
Spray tip is clogged.
Pump fluid filter is clogged.
Spray gun fluid filter is clogged.
Spray tip is too large or worn.
Reversible spray tip is in UNCLOG
position.
Spray tip is too large for sprayer.
Spray tip is worn beyond capability of
sprayer.
Engine speed is too low
Spray gun fluid filter is clogged.
Pump fluid filter is clogged.
Inlet screen is clogged.
Pump valves are worn, or debris is
clogging valve.
Material is too thick.
Hose is too long (if extra section is
added).
Suction tube is leaking, allowing air to
enter.
Spray tip is clogged.
Coat is going on too thick.
Solution
Slowly turn Pressure Control Knob
clockwise to increase pressure set-
ting which will turn motor on to build
pressure.
Unclog spray tip, page 14.
Clean or replace pump fluid filter.
Clean or replace gun fluid filter, page
18.
Replace tip.
Rotate arrow-shaped handle on
spray tip so it points forward in
SPRAY position.
Select smaller spray tip.
Replace spray tip.
Increase engine throttle setting.
Clean or replace spray gun fluid filter,
page 18.
Clean or replace pump fluid filter.
Clean debris off inlet screen.
Check for worn pump valves.
a. Prime sprayer with paint
b. Trigger gun momentarily.
When trigger is released,
pump should cycle momen-
tarily and stop. If pump con-
tinues to cycle, pump valves
may be worn.
c. Remove valves and check for
debris.
Thin material.
Remove section of hose.
Tighten suction tube connection.
Inspect for cracks or vacuum leaks.
Unclog spray tip, page 14.
Move gun faster.
Choose a tip with smaller hole size.
Choose tip with wider fan.
Make sure gun is far enough from
surface.
