My VC intrepid ll wood stove, both the damper handle and heat control handles are stuck. Best and easiest way to inspect and fix.

Mr. Anderson
February 10, 2025

To inspect the stuck damper handle and heat control handle on a Vermont Castings Intrepid II wood stove:

1. Check the Damper Handle: The damper handle is attached to the damper rod with a set screw. Inspect the set screw for tightness and ensure it is properly securing the handle. If it is loose, tighten it as needed.

2. Inspect the Damper Rod and Plate: When the stove damper is closed, the rod should press against the damper plate to create a good seal. If the damper is stuck, check if the rod or plate needs adjustment due to wear over time.

3. Examine the Thermostat Lever: If the heat control handle is not functioning properly, verify that the thermostat coil is correctly positioned and not bent or broken. If the coil appears damaged, contact a Vermont Castings dealer for assistance.

4. Look for Obstructions or Debris: Ensure that dust, soot, or buildup is not preventing movement. Clean the affected areas if necessary.

Following these steps should help diagnose and resolve issues with a stuck damper handle or heat control handle.
