Important Safety Information – Read First Before installing, configuring, and operating Savant® equipment and other vendor equipment, Savant recommends that each dealer, installer, or integrator, access and read all the required technical documentation. Savant technical documentation can be located by visiting the Savant Customer Community. Vendor documentation is supplied with the equipment.
This Deployment Guide will guide the installer through the process of installing, configuring, and adding a SmartMediaPro chassis to a Blueprint configuration. While this document contains all the steps required, other information may be required during the process. Please visit the Savant Customer Community for additional information.
The modules (audio and video cards) can be installed either before or after installing chassis into a rack system. Because it is sometimes difficult to get to the rear panel, Savant recommends installing the modules before installing into a rack system. Follow the steps below to install the modules into an SSP- 0600or SSP-1200 chassis.
7.4. GPIO Port Connections General Purpose Input/Outputs (GPIO) are binary I/O ports used on Savant controllers to trigger an action within the system. Events can control a device, such as turning on an amplifier (output) or detecting a state change for a device (input) to perform a workflow. Pins 2-8 are used for input or output depending on the configuration.
POWER MANAGEMENT RECOMMENDATION Savant recommends a pure sine wave uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with the ability to shut down the Savant Host before the battery runs out of power. Never remove power from the Savant Host before shutting it down.
The SmartMediaPro chassis supports adding an Audio Interrupt Service (AIS). The Audio Interrupt can be configured to interrup a currently playing audio with a doorbell chime thus allerting the user that the doorbell was pressed. This service requires a connection between a Savant host and the SmartMediaPro chassis.
These higher quality components also allow for more accurate troubleshooting when needed. Connect all Savant devices to the same local area network (LAN) or subnet as the Host. Savant recommends not implementing any type of traffic or packet shaping in your network topology for the Savant devices as this may interfere with performance.
Appendix B: Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Savant does not recommend any particular brand or model UPS, however there are a couple of factors that should be considered. It is important that the UPS does not only work during complete power loss but protects devices and their functionality during events like surges and brownouts. It is not uncommon for a residence or small business to see variations in power service that do not result in a complete black-out.
