asynchronous
AT command

Data without an accompanying time signal.
Timing is built into data characters as start
and stop bits.
An order entered into the computer to request
your modem to perform certain actions, such
as dial a telemodem number. AT commands
are Hayes-compatible modem commands.
Signaling speed of the modem. Common
baud rates are 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, and
56k.
Bits per second. The rate at which data passes
over the telemodem line or through the air.
The basic unit of measure for serial data
transmission capacity.
A unit of information consisting of a sequence
of signals.
Continuous data communication, such as a
modem call.
The Clear to Send signal passed from the
local modem to the local terminal when the
data port is ready to transmit data. Occurs in
response to the Request To Send (RTS)
signal.
