TRAINING A DOG Do you have to teach the dog something or discourage its bad habits? WHY DOES A DOG OBEY? The reasons that can persuade a dog to obey are: ▪ it gives it pleasant feelings ▪ it removes of unpleasant feelings (training) ▪... - Page 5 THE SUPPRESSION OF BAD HABITS For properly eliminating unwanted behaviour, it has to be associated with a sufficiently unpleasant stimulation (aversion). The animal will react to the unpleasant stimulation through a survival reflex. Something to think about is that 90% of dog owners have not consciously trained their dog, but in fact it’s the other way around, it’s the dog that has trained its owner to react to certain behaviour (if it barks, someone opens the door for it, if it rattles its food dish, someone gives it food or drink …).
- Page 6 EFFICIENCY OF COLLARS Electronic collars are very effective. They offer a quick, lasting solution to problems that would have required long, expensive and sometimes ineffective therapy (see II, point a). Thanks to training collars, owners can control the freedom of their dogs and ensure their safety.

TRAINING TECHNIQUES Electronic collars improve the acquired training. It is there only in case of an “accident”. CORRECTION STIMULATION If the dog, after being seriously distracted, ignores a known command, a sufficient stimulation must bring it back under control. A correction must always be made immediately or, at the latest, within 2 seconds after the dis- obedience. - Page 8 CONTACT METHOD Use a low-level, short stimulation (1/4 of a second) to reinforce or accom- pany a command already known. The aim is that the dog accepts this stim- ulation so as, later, to accept the correction stimulation in the event of disobedience.
