Ways to Connect the Drive
(NEED Graphics)
The My Passport Wireless Drive can make the following connections:
Wireless drive connect directly to your computer
You set up a direct connection between the drive and your computer using Wi-Fi.
Your computer joins the My Passport Wireless drive's Wi-Fi network.
Note: The drive is not connected to your local network or the Internet.
Wireless drive with Internet access
You connect your drive to a hotspot—a wireless local area network (WLAN) with
Internet connectivity. You have access to your media on your drive and to the
Internet.
Wireless drive for all devices connected to your home's Wi-Fi network
You connect the drive to your home network. You have access to your media
through your router (LAN) as well as to the Internet (provided your network has
Internet connectivity).
External drive that you plug into your computer
You connect your computer and My Passport Wireless drive with a USB cable,
essentially turning it into a Direct-Attached Storage (DAS) drivev. In this case, there is
no wireless connectivity so you don't get Internet access and you will unable to
display the My Passport Wireless web interface.
Connecting to Your Computer Wirelessly
After initial setup, you can create a direct connection using a browser or the WD My Cloud
app on a mobile device.
Using a Browser
1. Make sure the My Passport Wireless device is on, the power LED is lit, and the wireless
LED is solid blue. (See "Understand the LEDs" on page 25 for more information.)
