Expose Old Thermostat Wiring Unmount the old thermostat from the wall to expose the wiring and terminals. Take a picture of the terminals to record how the wires are connected.
Page 6
Verify C Wire The Gateway Thermostat requires a C wire for power return. Verify that a wire runs to the C terminal of the old thermostat. If a C wire is not present, then a C-wire kit (model SA908-) needs to be installed.

Detach and Label Wires, and Clear Wall Note the terminals attached to each wire and attach the matching label to the ends of the wires. Wrapping the wires around a pencil can help prevent the wires from falling into the hole in the wall. When all wires have been disconnected, remove any other pieces of the old thermostat that may still be attached to the wall.

Attach Wiring Before attaching the wires, match the label on the wires to its corresponding terminal. Refer to the picture of the wiring taken earlier if necessary. Attach the wires by pressing on the latch next to the terminal, inserting the wire into the side hole and releasing the latch. Pull on the wire after releasing the latch to verify that the wire is firmly secured. Push any excess wire into the wall or junction box.
