I. GENERAL
OPERATION
Read, understand,and followall instructions inthe manual
and on the machine before starting.
Only allow responsible adults, who are familiar with the
instructions,to operate the machine.
Clear the area of objects such es rocks, toys, wire, etc.,
which could be picked up and thrown by the blade.
Be sure the area is clear of other people before mow=ng.
Stop machine if anyone enters the area.
Never carry psssengers.
Do not mow in reverse unless absolutely necessery.
Always lookdown and behind before and while backing.
Be aware ofthernowerdischargedirection and do not peint
itat anyone. Do notoperate the mower withouteither the
entire grass catcher or the guard in place.
Slow down before turning.
Never leave a runningmachine unattended. Always tum
off blades, set parking brake, stop engine, and remove
keys before dismounting.
Turn offblades when not mowing.
Stop engine before removinggrass catcher or unclnggjng
chute.
Mow only in daylight or good artificiallight.
Do not operate the machine while under the influence of
alcoholor drugs.
Watch for traffic when operating near or crossing road-
ways.
Use extracerewhen loadingor unloedingthe machine into
a trailer or truck.
Dataindicatesthat operators,age 60 yearsand above, are
involved in a large percentage of riding mower-related
injuries. These operators should evaluate their ability to
operate the ridingmower safely enough to protectthem-
selves and others from serious injury.
Keep rnachinefree ofgrass, leaves or otherdebrts build-
up which can touch hot exhaust / engine parts and bum.
Do not allow the mower deck to plow leaves
or other debris which can cause build-upto occur. Clean
any oil or fuel spillage before operating or storing the
machine.
Allow

cool
before
storage.
II. SLOPE OPERATION
SIo_. are a majorfactor rslatedto loss-of-control and tipever
accidents, w hichcan resultin severe injuryor death. All slopes
requireextracaution.If youcannotback uptheslopeor if youfeel
ucaasyon it, do notmowit.
DO:
Mow up and down slopes, not across.
Remove obstacles such as rocks, tree limbs, etc.
Watch for holes, ruts, or bumps. Uneven terrain could
overtum the machine. Tallgrass can hide Gbstacles.
Use slow speed. Choose a low gear so that you will not
have to stop or shift while on the slope.
Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for wheel
weights or counterweightsto improve stability.
Use extracare with grass catchers or otherattachments.
These can change the stabilityof the machine.
Keepallmovementontheslopesslowandgradual.
DO
not make sudden changes in speed or direction.

Avoid startingor stoppingon a slope. Iftires lose traction,
disengage the blades and proceed slowlystraightdown
the slope.
DO NOT:
Do not rum on slopes unless necessary, and then, rum
slowty and gradually downhill, ifpe_ible.
Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches, or embankments.
The mower could suddenlyrumover if a wheel isOverthe
edge of a cliffor ditch, or if an edge caves in.
Do not mow on wet grass. Reduced traction could cause
sliding.
Do not try tostabilize the machine by puttingyour foot on
theground.
Do not use grass catcher on steep slopes.
III. CHILDREN
Tragic accidents can occur if the operator is not alert to the
presence of children. Children are often attracted to the
machine and the mowing activity. Neverassumethatchildren
will remain where you lest saw them.
Keep children out of the mowing area and under the
watchfulcare of another responsibleadult.
Be alert and turn machine offit childrenenter the area.
Before and when becking,lookbehind and downforsmall
children.
Never carry children. They may fall off and be seriously
injured or interfere with safe machineoperation.
Never allow children to operatethe machine.
Use extra care when approaching blindcomers, shrubs,
trees, or other objects that may obscure vision.
IV. SERVICE
Use extracera in handlinggaseline and otherfuels. They
are flammable and vapors are explosive.
- Use only an appreved container.
- Never remove gas cap or add fuel with the engine
running. Allow engine to cool before refueling. Do not
smoke.
- Never refuelthe reachine indoors.
- Never store the machine or fuelcontainer insidewhere
there is an open flame, such as a water heater.
Never run a machine inside a closed area.
Keep nuts and bolts, especially blade attachment belts,
tightand keep equipment in good condition.
Never tamper with safety devices. Check their proper
operation regularly.
Keep rnachinefree of grass, leaves, or otherdebris build-
up. Clean oilorfuel spillage. Allowmachine tocool before
storing.
Stop and inspect the equipment if you strike an object.
Repair, if necessary, before restarting.
Never make adjustments or repairs with the engine
running.
Grass catcher coreponents are subjectto wear, damage,
and deterioration, which could expose moving parts or
allow objectsto be thrown. Frequentlycheckcomponents
and replace with manufacturer's recommended parts,
when necessa_.
Mower blades are sharp and can cut. Wraptheblade(s)
or wear gloves, and use extra caution when servicing
them.
Check brake operation frequently. Adjust and service
as required.
