Troubleshooting/FAQs

The transfer can take place during operation
The firmware can be transferred while a SCALANCE S device is in operation.
Communication is, however, interrupted after the download until the automatic restart of the
SCALANCE S device is completed. Newly downloaded firmware only becomes active after
the SCALANCE S device has been restarted.
If the transfer is disrupted and aborted, the device starts up again with the old firmware
version.
Make the transfer in the Security Configuration Tool as follows:
Select the SCALANCE S in the content area and select the menu command "Transfer" >
"Transfer firmware...".

If the fault LED of the SCALANCE S device is lit red after booting, you should first completely

device is then reset to the factory settings and runs a reboot. For productive operation, you
must then download the configuration to the device again.
If rebooting fails three times in succession, the firmware is reset to the previously used
version. If, however, the fault LED of the SCALANCE S device continues to be lit red, the
device will need to be sent in for repair.
