6.7.3 Replacing a tire or inner tube

There are three different types of tires or inner
tubes, and specific points must be observed for
replacement of each type. The individual types of
tires can be easily distinguished:
Pneumatic tires have black valve caps.
Puncture-protected tires have red valve caps.
Puncture-proof tires have no valves.
Proceed in accordance with the appropriate chapter:
Replacing pneumatic tires – see "Replacing
pneumatic tires"

Replacing pneumatic tires
Pneumatic tires have black valve caps.
6 mm Allen key
Two long wooden blocks, min. 14 x 14 x 30 cm
Repair kit for inner tube tires or a new inner
tube.
Tire pump or compressor
Talcum powder or tire lubrication
Removing tires
1. Remove wheel as described in 6.7.2 Replacing drive
wheel, page 34.
2. Loosen and remove valve cap (2).
CAUTION!
Risk of explosion
If mobility device is fitted with pneumatic tires,
wheel can explode if air is not released from tire
before removing wheel.
– Always release air from wheel before you
remove it. Depress small tappet in center of
valve.
1. Press spring pin on valve and remove air completely
from tire.
2. Loosen and remove five screws (4) on inside of wheel.
3. Release inner (3) and outer rim ring (6) from tire (1).
4. Remove inner tube (5) from tire.
5. Replace defective or worn parts or repair parts.
Installing tires
1. Install inner tube in tire.
If the old inner tube is to be repaired and
used again and has become wet during repair,
installation can be made easier by applying some
talcum powder to inner tube.
2. Install rim rings (3) and (6) to tire. Make sure that
boreholes and thread for screws are exactly on top of
each other.

3. Fill some air into inner tube.
4. Install five Allen screws on inner side of wheel and
tighten.
5. Check exact fit of tire on rim.
6. Inflate tire to prescribed air pressure.
7. Re-check exact fit of tire on the rim.
8. Screw valve cap back on.
9. Install wheel.
Replacing puncture-protected tires
Puncture-protected tires have red valve caps.
6 mm Allen key
Two long wooden blocks, min. 14 x 14 x 30 cm
tire pump or compressor
Talcum powder
Removing tires
1. Remove wheel as described in 6.7.2 Replacing drive
wheel, page 34.
2. Remove valve cover (2).
CAUTION!
Risk of explosion
If mobility device is fitted with pneumatic
tires, wheel can explode if air is not released
from tire before removing wheel.
– Always release air from wheel before you
remove it. Depress small tappet in center
of valve.
CAUTION!
Risk of damage
Valve can become blocked by puncture
protection gel and become unusable.
– During following steps you should always
hold valve up so that puncture protection
gel cannot enter valve.
3. Press spring pin on valve and remove air completely
from tire.
4. Loosen and remove five screws (4) on inside of wheel.
5. Release inner (3) and outer rim ring (6) from tire (1).
6. Replace any defective or worn parts.
Installing tires
1. Install inner tube in tire.
If old inner tube is to be repaired and re-used,
and has become wet during repair, you can make
replacement easier by sprinkling inner tube with
a little talcum powder.
2. Install rim rings (3) and (6) to tire. Make sure that
boreholes and thread for screws are exactly on top of
each other.
3. Fill some air into inner tube.
4. Install five Allen screws on inner side of wheel and
tighten them.
