    BRAKE The parking brakes are part of the most important safety elements of a wheelchair. This function is provided by pressure brakes or air pressure in- dependent drum brakes. Attention: Please observe the Maintenance Instructions as well as instructions in the section < General Safety In- formation >...

    BRAKE SERVICE BRAKE – Gently and evenly press both brake levers slightly forwards. This way, you brake the wheelchair in a measured way. PARKING BRAKE – Push both brake levers forward as far as they will go (fig. 5). The brakes engage and the wheelchair can no longer be pushed (parking brake).

    BRAKE LOCKING THE DRUM BRAKES – To secure the wheelchair against accidental rolling, evenly pull both brake levers. – Then press the surface (A, fig. 7) of the latching pawl. – Let go of the brake lever. – De- pending on the setting, the latch- ing pawl will click into the first or second latching position and lock the brake.

    LEG SUPPORTS Attention: The leg supports are adjustable and detachable parts and are not suitable as a means of lifting up or carrying the wheelchair (See warn- ing on the arm supports). CALF BELT The leg strap prevents the feet from slipping from the foot board.

    ARM SUPPORTS The height-adjustable sides with long arm supports (fig. 23) can be folded up and removed. Attention: The arm supports are movable and detachable and are not suitable for lifting or carrying the wheelchair. Benefits: – Easy access to wheelchair by fold- ing up or removing the sides.

    BACK SUPPORT The padded back support is progres- sively adjustable in angle and has a headrest guide. Benefits: – Relief for the spinal column. – Pressure relief for buttocks muscles (decubitus prophylactics). – Fatigue-free sitting. – Comfortable resting position in connection with tipping the seat and raised leg supports.

    SEAT UNIT The position of the seat unit can be adjusted in angle or tipped, and the seat depth is also adjustable. Benefits: – Comfortable resting position with raised leg supports. – Weight transfer. – Permits feet to come into contact with the floor.

    SEAT UNIT SEAT DEPTH ADJUSTMENT (Code 629) – Operate parking brakes. – This pre- vents the wheelchair from rolling away accidentally. – Place the person on the seat. – Push the seat until the back comes into contact with the back support. This is realised by lifting up the bar under the front edge of the seat (A, Fig.38).

    SUPPORT CASTORS To increase anti-tipping stability, the wheelchair has a small support wheel on each side (fig. 43). CORRECT SUPPORT CASTORS LENGTH The support wheel has to extend be- yond the driving wheel in order to provide sufficient support. To achieve sufficient tilting stability, both support wheels should be posi- tioned parallel to each other.
