Installation Guide for MRI-1000
Problem
3. No dial tone at
the RJ11 inside
the junction box
4. Unit is not
communicating
over the air
GS-08-1724, v 3.2
Possible Cause
There may be a break in
connectivity of Tip &
Ring between the meter
and the Outdoor Unit
Plug an analog phone (or a
"butt set") into the RJ11
socket at the junction box.
You should hear a
synthetic dial tone, about
1000Hz. If you do not
hear this tone, then there is
a problem with either the
CAT5 cabling or with the
UCH board in the Outdoor
Unit.
Verify the two data cables
inside the Outdoor Unit
are connected
Solution
Tip/Ring signals are carried on the two center
conductors of each RJ-11/12 Jack or Plug. They
should not be shorted together at any point. On the Cat
5/6 TB in the outdoor unit pin2 is tip and pin3 is ring.
The static DC voltage between pins 2 and 3 should be
approximately 50 VDC.
Using a continuity tool or Telephone Wiring Test Set:
• Verify the connection of two wires all the way
from meter to RJ-12 Socket in the Junction Box
• Verify the continuity of the cable from the RJ11
socket of the Junction box to the RJ11 plug inside
the Outdoor Unit. This is a grey wire going to the
right hand side of the middle card in the Outdoor
Unit. (see photo below)
• Power the Junction Box and confirm that the RJ11
socket in the Outdoor Unit (right side of photo
below) produces the 1000Hz synthetic dial tone.
Each cable should be connected to the Power PCB on
the bottom of the stack.
One cable should go to the 22pin Molex connector at
the Modem card at the top of the stack. The other
should go to the DB9 and power connector on the
processor card in the middle of the stack (see photo
above)
