Installation Guide for MRI-1000

System Checkout

1. Plug the power cable into Junction Box, and into
wall power. (110vac, 60hz) Ensure that LED in
Junction Box is GREEN. This LED should be
RED for about one second upon plugging in to
wall power. It should then change to and remain
GREEN. If this is initial power on wait at least 5
minutes before attempting any calls into the unit.
This will allow internal controls circuits to boot
up and condition the modem to accept incoming
calls.
2. Use the Globalstar GSP1600 to confirm that you
have satellite signal present. With the 1600
registered dial the number recorded on the inside
cover of the Junction Box. You should hear a
ringing in the 1600 and then the modem should
answer. Verify you hear a modem tone within 55
to 90 seconds. At this point observe that the two
red lights on the kV2c meter illuminate which
indicates that the MRI-1000 and the kV2c are in
communication. NOTE. It is assumed that the
Modem has been previously provisioned and
activated such that it can register as either as a test
or actual operational Unit. The user is ultimately
responsible for subscription activation and billing
issues in accordance with purchase agreement
and/or contract provisions.
3. Call the Phone Number of the MRI-1000 with a
telephone or satellite phone during a good
coverage period. Verify you hear a modem tone
within 55 to 90 seconds. The tones you hear
should be modem "Training" sounds followed by
a continuous screeching. At this point terminate
the call by pressing END on the GSP1600. Within
a couple minutes the two red lights on the meter
should extinguish. If the initial call failed to result
in the modem connection wait at least three (3)
minutes before attempting a redial
4. This is the extent of the checkout that can be
performed at the remote meter installation.
Further performance and actual meter readout
functions will have to be performed from a PC
over the interface from a system utilizing Meter
Reading Application Software.

get estimated coverage times for the install
location. Alternately check coverage
locally with a Globalstar 1600 SatPhone.
Keep in mind that you must have satellite
service for the MRI-1000 to answer a call
