Pinpoint Mode
Ifusedforcontinuous-search,beawarethatthesignalissubjecttodriftwith
both time and temperature change. Drift will cause either an increase or
decreaseinsensitivity. Inthemostextremecase,thesignalwilldriftupward
untilthedetectorsoundsoffcontinuouslywithnotargetpresent.
PinpointDepthIndicator
While isdepressed,a2-digitnumberindicatesthedepthofthetarget.This
depthindicatoriscalibratedtoacoin-sizedobject.Themaximumdepthreading,
25 or09 ,maydisplayintheeventofelectricalnoiseoraveryweaksignal.

To demonstrate the depth indicator function, hold a coin over the searchcoil,
press-and-hold
Holdthecoinflat,paralleltothesearchcoil.Watchthedepthindicatorchange
asthedistancefromthesearchcoilchanges.
PinpointRetuning
RetuninginthePinpointModeisusefulinnarrowingdownthelocationofatarget.
Toretunethedetector,quicklyreleasethebuttonandimmediatelydepressthe
buttonagain.

Positionthesearchcoil2to5cm(1"-2")abovetheground,andtothesideofthe
target.Thenpressandhold

side,andhearnosoundattheendsofthesweep,thetargetislocatedinthemiddle
ofthatzone,wherethesoundisloudest.Ifthesoundisloudoverawidearea,the
buriedobjectislarge.UsePinpointtotraceanoutlineofsuchlargeobjects.

NarrowItDown

Tofurthernarrowthefieldofdetection,positionthesearchcoilnearthecenter
of the response pattern (but not at the exact center), release
quicklypress-and-holditagain.Nowyouwillonlyheararesponsewhenthe
searchcoilisrightoverthetopofthetarget. Repeatthisproceduretonarrow
thezoneevenfurther.Eachtimeyourepeattheprocedure,thefieldofdetection
willnarrowfurther.
ConsiderPurchasingaPinpointer
Whenyoukneeldowntounearthanobject,youmayfinditfrustratingastheobject
canappearexactlylikethesurroundingsoil.Youmayholdtheobjectinyourhand,
andfinditnecessarytopassahandfulofdirtoverthesearchcoiltoseeifitcontains
