STARTING/STOPPING THE ENGINE

Starting the engine

In the case of an automatic
transmission
Refer to section 2 for information on
the automatic gearbox.
Vehicles
fitted
with
immobiliser
In
very
cold
(temperatures below –20°C): switch
on the ignition for several seconds
before attempting to start the engine
to make it easier to start the engine.
Make sure the engine immobiliser is
not activated. Refer to section 1
for information on the engine
immobiliser system.
If there is a child (or animal) in the vehicle, never leave it unattended with the key in the ignition.. A child
could start the engine or operate electrical equipment, for example, the electric windows and could trap part
of his or her body (neck,arm,hand,etc.). Risk of serious injury.
Never switch off the ignition before the vehicle has stopped completely. Once the vehicle has stopped, the
power steering, brake servo and the passive safety devices such as air bags and pretensioners will no longer operate.
When the key has been removed, the steering will lock.
Petrol injection
Turn the key to the Start position
without depressing the accelerator.
Release the key as soon as the
engine starts.

Diesel injection
Turn the ignition key to
the on position M and hold it in this
position until the engine preheating
warning light goes out.
Turn the key to the starter position D
without depressing the accelerator.
Release the key as soon as the
engine starts.

Stopping the engine

With the engine idling, turn the key
back to the Stop position.
