Protecting Children

Children depend on adults to protect
them. However, despite their best
intentions, many parents and other
adults may not know how to
protect young passengers.
So if you have children, or if you ever
need to drive with a grandchild or
other children in your car, be sure to
read this section.
24
Driver and Passenger Safety
Children who are
unrestrained or improperly
restrained can be seriously
injured or killed in a crash.
Any child too small for a seat
belt should be properly
restrained in an approved
child restraint system. A
larger child should be
properly restrained with a
seat belt.
properly
In most countries, child restraint
systems must meet specification of
ECE 44 regulation.
In many countries, the law requires
children younger than 12 years of
age and less than 150 cm (60 in) in
height to be secured in an officially
approved and suitable child restraint
system. In those countries, officially
approved and suitable child restraint
systems must therefore be used in
order to transport a child on any
passenger seat whatsoever. Please
check your local legal requirements.
