3.5 BENCH OPERATION

Bench testing dictates the use of dir ect
coaxial cable connections between the
Test Set and UUT. The Attenuator Dial
r eadout is the RF level in dBm pr esent at
the RF O UT Connector into 50 Ω . To
conduct accur ate sensitivity
measur ements, the loss in dBm of the
connecting coaxial cables must be known.

ANTENNA CONNECTORS
ARE ALSO USED FO R THE
COM TRANSMITTER
CONNECTOR. THE
TRANSMITTER SHO ULD BE
KEYED O NLY WHEN THE
COM ANTENNA
CONNECTOR IS
DISCONNECTED FROM THE
TEST SET RF O UT
CONNECTOR. DAMAGE TO
THE ATTENUATOR AND
SIGNAL GENERATOR
SYSTEM MAY RESULT.

3.6 COUNTER OPERATION

With the TO NE SELECT Switch in the
CTR IN position, the Test Set Counter
may be utilized as a gener al utility
Counter . Fr equencies fr om 1 to 300 MHz
can be measur ed. The Counter Mode
Switch can be used in any of the four time
base positions: Hz, kHz, KHz or MHz.

3.7 BATTERY PARAMETERS

The batter y per mits completely por table
r amp oper ation for up to two hour s.
In batter y oper ation, an automatic timer
tur ns the Test Set O FF after 6 to
10 minutes. The Test Set can be
r ecycled by pr essing the PWR/BAT Switch
to the BAT position.

With the MONITOR METER FUNCTION
switch in the BAT position, the MO NITO R
meter 0 to 30% scale displays batter y
voltage. Nor mal batter y char ged condition
is indicated as ≥ 15 V or gr eater . Batter y
voltage <12.5 V indicates a dischar ged
batter y. An automatic low voltage cutoff
cir cuit tur ns the Test Set O FF when the
batter y voltage dr ops under 12.5 V.
NOTE: If the Test Set is used only for
bench oper ation, the batter y can
lose stor age ability. The Test Set
should be per iodically oper ated on
batter y power to allow the batter y
to par tially dischar ge.
3.8 OPERATE LOC AND G/S
SIMULTANEO USLY
To oper ate the LO C and G /S outputs
simultaneously:
G Adjust all contr ols for nor mal G /S
oper ation ( G /S FIXED mode, only) .
The O utput Attenuator var ies the RF
level of the G /S signal, and G /S DDM
contr ols var y the DDM of the G /S
signal.
G Select LO C with the AVG /PEAK LO C
XMTR O N Switch to activate a
separ ate Localizer gener ator in the
Test Set. This gener ator output is
combined with the G /S output at the
RF O utput Connector at the fixed level
of - 18 dBm ( appr ox.) . LO C DDM
Contr ols var y the DDM of the Localizer
signal.
