1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND
CAPABILITIES

1.1 DESCRIPTION

The NAV- 402AP is a Bench and Ramp Test
Set designed to
functional test r equir ements of Categor y I
and Categor y
Communication ( CO MM) , Navigation ( NAV)
and Mar ker ( MKR) Systems.
The NAV- 402AP contains featur es to allow
testing of sophisticated autopilot systems.
These featur es include:
DDM, automatic sweep, two fixed VO R
fr equencies; and two fixed, pair ed LO C and
G /S fr equencies.

1.2 FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITIES

The NAV- 402AP has the following featur es
and capabilities:
G Signal G ener ator with a var iable
attenuator which can be connected to
the equipment under test by a r adiated
signal fr om a self- contained antenna or
by a coaxial cable. The signal
gener ator can be oper ated under either
fixed fr equency contr ol or in var iable
fr equency mode in each band.
G The gener ator can be modulated
inter nally by a 1020 Hz Ident Tone,
Mar ker , VHF O mnidir ectional Range
( VO R) , Localizer ( LO C) or G lide Slope
( G /S) Tones.
G A six- digit counter which indicates the
RF of the signal gener ator on any band,
the fr equency of a CO M Tr ansmitter
under test, any exter nal signal input
fr om 1 MHz to at least 300 MHz, or the
VO R Bear ing selected by the Bear ing
Select Switches.

by selecting a switch position located on
the Fr ont Panel. A CO M Tr ansmitter
demodulation output per mits viewing or
listening to CO M modulation.
G A built- in modulation meter measur es
Signal G ener ator Per cent of Modulation
on any fr equency band fr om 0- 30% or
0- 100%. Fr ont Panel contr ols per mit
quick setting of modulation per centages.
G A 90 ° bear ing check monitor allows
quick ver ification of basic VO R bear ing
fr om the VO R demod signal.
G A NICAD batter y and built- in char ging
system per mit completely por table
oper ation for up to 2 hour s continuous
duty. Any time the Test Set is plugged
to an ac line, the batter y is being
char ged. In batter y oper ation, an
automatic timer tur ns the Test Set off
after 6 to 10 minutes. The Test Set can
be r ecycled by pr essing the PWR/BAT
Switch to the BAT position.
