Lubricating your Dash 9

H
elp your Lionel Dash 9 lead a long
and productive life on your railroad
by maintaining it properly.
We recommend you purchase a Lionel
Lubrication and Maintenance Kit (no. 6-
62927), available from your Lionel dealer.
Two basic rules to keep in mind: never
over-lubricate (a small amount will do),

Lubricating your Dash 9's Pullmor motor armatures

Y
our Dash 9 will require occasional
lubrication of its Pullmor
armatures. If you hear excess noise
during operation, or if the locomotive
slows down intermittently, you may
need to oil the top armature bearings.
Start by removing only the six
screws with brackets at the arrow
locations in the illustration above. The
cab can now be separated from the

PADE CONNECTORS
After removing the .050" set screw, place a small amount of Lionel oil (two drops
maximum) in the set screw hole. Reinstall the set screw tightly, then back off one-half turn.
You can apply a mark of nail polish or liquid paper before removing the set screw as an aid
in restoring the adjustment to the factory setting

Dash 9's wheels or your track. You'll know
your Dash 9 requires lubrication when
visual inspection reveals dryness on the
parts indicated in the illustration. Remove
accumulated dirt and dust before lubricat-

ing, and always lubricate any locomotive
emerging from prolonged storage.

IONEL OIL SPARINGLY
frame, taking care not to pull on the
connecting wires. Remove set screw
shown below, apply a small amount of
Lionel oil (two drops) in the armature
shaft. Duplicate these steps for the
other Pullmor motor.
Finish the job by reinstalling the
body shell. Align the frame brackets
so that they do not interfere with the
trucks' swing.
