Drive Chain
The service life of the drive chain is de-
pendent upon prope. lubricatjon and
adjustnent. Poor maintenance can cause
premature wear or damage to lhe drive
.hain ald sprockets.
The drive chain should be chec|ed and
lubricated as part of the Pre-ride lnspec_
tion (pase 27). Under severe usase, or
when the motorcycl€ is ridden in unusualy
dusty areas, nore lrequert mainteDance
I n s p e c t i o n :
l. Turn the engine off, place the molor-
cycle on the center stand dd shiit the
transmission inlo neutial.
2. Check sleck in the lower drive charn
run mid{ay between the sprockets
Drive chain slack should be adiusted
to allow approximateLy l5 ?5 mm
(5/8-l in) vertical movement by hand.
Rotate ihe red wheel bY hand and
check diive chain slack as the wheel
Drive chain slack should remain constani
as the vheel rotates. lf the chain is slack
