Section 2 - Choosing an Operation Mode
The DIR-879 is equipped with a mode switch to give you more flexibility in how to configure your network. You may select
either Router Mode or Extender Mode.
• Router Mode shares your Internet connection. This is the factory default setting suitable for most users.
• Extender Mode extends your existing network.
Determine your desired type of operation and adjust the mode switch before you begin your installation.
The following pages contain information about the DIR-879's operation modes to help you determine how you wish to use it.
This information includes usage scenarios, cable diagrams, and network configuration information.
Note: If the mode switch is adjusted while powered on, the DIR-879 will reboot into the new mode after five seconds.
