System Storage Archive Manager disk storage pool

The DR550 includes one small storage pool (500 GB) with instructions in the
DR550 Installation Roadmap on how to expand it or add additional storage pools.
The DR550 has been preconfigured with a single disk storage pool
(ARCHIVEPOOL). Only the first free raw logical volume has been defined into the
ARCHIVEPOOL. The customer is expected to add additional volumes to the
storage pool or create new storage pools as necessary.
SSAM storage configuration details for the remaining DR1 and DR2 configurations
are presented in the DR550 Installation Roadmap. The DR550 will come from the
factory with a small data object stored into the SSAM Server. The retention policy
on the object is permanent. The reason that this is important is that SSAM allows
the customer to disable the data retention protection capability on the SSAM
Server if there is no data stored into the SSAM Server. Since the small object will
never expire on the SSAM Server in the DR550, a customer should never be able to
disable data retention protection.

SSAM Server failures

To diagnose SSAM Server failures, do the following:
v SSAM server directory is: /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin. Contains server error
v Problem determination via command line: dsmadmc. Perform different query
v Check the SSAM activity log. You can run the following command from
v If SSAM server is not accessible, kill process dsmserv. Requires restart of the

DR550-specific version of DS4000 Storage Manager

The DR550 specific version of the DS4000 Storage Manager software (hereafter
referred to as the DS4000 Storage Manager for DR550) will be available from the
DR550 support Web site for download. This version has been enhanced to provide
additional protection.
Storage Manager is designed to support centralized management of the DR550
Storage Controllers in the DR550. Storage Manager is designed to allow
administrators to quickly configure and monitor storage from a Java-based GUI
interface. It is also designed to allow them to customize and change settings as
well as configure new volumes, define mappings, handle routine maintenance and
dynamically add new enclosures and capacity to existing volumes—without
interrupting user access to data. Failover drivers, performance-tuning routines and
cluster support are also standard features of Storage Manager.
Using the DS4000 Storage Manager for DR550, the DR550 Storage Controller is set
up in a single partition at the factory (even though it has capability for 2
partitions). As shown in cabling diagrams, the DR550 SSAM Servers are connected
to the DR550 Storage Controllers via Ethernet cables. This connection is used to
manage the DR550 Storage Controllers. For the single node configuration, DS4000
Storage Manager runs in the DR550 SSAM Server. For the dual node configuration,
DS4000 Storage Manager runs in both servers.
Note: Only this special version of DS4000 Storage Manager should be used with
