CHANGING THE WIDTH - SECTION D
SECTION D - CHANGING THE
WIDTH OF THE BASE FRAME
(SMALL SEAT FRAME)
Disassembly of the Base Frame
(FIGURES 8 AND 9)
NOTE: Refer to Procedure 1 - General Guidelines
which include GENERAL and SPECIFIC WARNINGS
concerning wheelchair stability.
1. If necessary, remove the seat frame from the
base frame. Refer to DISASSEMBLY in PRO-
CEDURE 2 of this manual.
2. Remove the rear wheels. Refer to REMOVING/
INSTALLING THE REAR WHEELS in PROCE-
DURE 7 of the owner's manual, part number
1073955.
3. If so equipped, remove the crossmember of the
foot activate wheel locks. Refer to CHANGING
THE WIDTH OF THE FOOT ACTIVATED
WHEEL LOCKS in this PROCEDURE of the
manual.
4. Remove the cable assembly from the tilt mecha-
nism. Refer to REMOVING/INSTALLING/AD-
JUSTING THE CABLE ASSEMBLY in PROCE-
DURE 9 of the owner's manual, part number
1073955.
5. Remove the mounting screw, washer, spacers,
and locknut that secures the top portion of the
tilt mechanism to the underside of the seat plate
assembly.
6. Remove the mounting screw and locknut that
secures the lower portion of the tilt mechanism
to the mounting bracket.
NOTE: Note the position of the adjustable height
pivot tube to maintain the same seat height. See
FIGURE 8 - DETAIL "A" .
7. Remove the mounting screws and locknuts that
secure the seat plate assembly to the base
frame.
8. Lift the seat plate assembly off and set aside.
9. Remove the mounting screw and locknut which
secures the mounting bracket to the top front
crossmember.
NOTE: Note the position of the top front crossmember
for proper reinstallation.
NOTE: Note the position of the top front crossmember
for proper reinstallation of the NEW top front
crossmember. FIGURE 8 - DETAIL "A" shows the
relationship between the adjustable height pivot tubes
and the angle of the mounting bracket. This relation-
ship must be maintained for your desired height ad-
justment, otherwise, 0
mum will not be obtainable.
10. Remove the six (6) mounting screws that se-
cure the three (3) crossmembers to the base
frame.
11. Install the NEW top front crossmember, the
crossmember with three (3) holes at the proper
angle noted from above, at the position where
the existing top front crossmember was just
removed. Secure with the existing two (2) mount-
ing screws and washers. Torque 75-80 inch
pounds.
12. Install the remaining two (2) NEW crossmembers
where existing crossmembers were just removed.
Secure with the existing four (4) mounting screws
and washers. Torque 75-80 inch pounds.
13. Secure the mounting bracket to the top front
crossmember in the angle determined from FIG-
URE 8 - DETAIL "A".
14. Proceed to CHANGING THE WIDTH OF THE
SEAT PLATE ASSEMBLY in this PROCEDURE
of the manual.
