Periodic maintenance and adjustment
When installing the spark plug, always clean
the gasket surface. Wipe off any grime from
the threads and tighten the spark plug to the
specified torque.
Spark plug tightening torque:
12.5 Nm (1.25 m·kgf, 9 ft·lbf)

NOTICE
Make sure that the spark plug caps are se-
curely installed. Otherwise the spark plug
caps could be damaged due to engine vi-
bration.

Adjusting the engine idling
speed
1. Remove the shroud, the left and right
side covers, and the top cover. (See page
41 for removal procedures.)
2. Start the engine and warm it up.
3. Remove the headlight unit bolts, and then
lift up the headlight unit.

4. Turn the idle adjusting screw in or out to
adjust the engine idling speed.

Standard engine idling speed:
1400–1600 r/min
5. Install the headlight unit, making sure to
insert the projections on the headlight
unit stay into the slots on the bottom of
the headlight unit.
6. Install the headlight unit bolts, and then
tighten them to the specified torque.
Headlight unit bolt tightening torque:
3 Nm (0.3 m·kgf, 2.2 ft·lbf)
7. Install the top cover, the left and right side
covers, and the shroud.

1. Remove the shroud. (See page 41 for re-
moval procedures.)
