Operation
Note: Determine the left and right sides of the machine
from the normal operating position.
CAUTION
If you leave the key in the ignition switch, someone
could accidently start the engine and seriously
injure you or other bystanders.
Lower the cutting decks to the ground, set the
parking brake and remove the key from the ignition
switch before servicing or making adjustments to
the machine.
Checking the Engine Oil Level
The engine is shipped with oil in the crankcase; however, the
oil level must be checked before and after the engine is first
started.
Crankcase capacity is approximately 5.5 qt. (5.2 l) with the
filter.
Use high-quality engine oil that meets the following
specifications:
•
API Classification Level Required: CH-4, CI-4 or higher
•
Preferred oil: SAE 15W-40 (above 0 degrees F)
•
Alternate oil: SAE 10W-30 or 5W-30 (all temperatures)
Toro Premium Engine oil is available from your distributor in
either 15W-40 or 10W-30 viscosity.
1. Park the machine on a level surface, stop the engine,
set the parking brake and remove the key from the
ignition switch.
2. Open the hood.
3. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, and install it (Figure
16).
