Two-Stage Heating Using The Thermostat’s 2nd Stage Relay If both Zone 2 or Zone 4 are in use, the 529 thermostat’s second stage relay must be used. This relay will close when the thermostat calls for 2nd stage heat (Rh-W2), and can be used to bring on the heating equipment.
