    HOW TO SETUP YOUR NEW HITACHI LCD TELEVISION To take measures to prevent the LCD Display from tipping over and prevent possible injury it is important to mount the unit in a stable place. Securing to a table-top Using wood screws (two) fasten the set to the clamping screw holes on the rear of the LCD Display stand as shown below.
  • Page 6 VIEWING The major benefit of the HITACHI LCD Television is its large viewing screen. To see this large screen at its best, test various locations in the room to find the optimum spot for viewing. The best picture is seen by sitting directly in front of the TV and about 8 to 18 feet from the screen.

    HOOKUP CABLES Most video/audio connections between components can be made with shielded video and audio cables that have phono connectors. For best performance, video cables should use 75-Ohm coaxial shielded wire. Cables can be purchased from most stores that sell audio/video products.

    REAR PANEL JACKS Monitor Bottom View Audio Video Control Center (AVC) Antenna Input The remote control allows you to switch between two separate 75-Ohm RF antenna inputs, ANT A and ANT B. ANT A input can be displayed as a main picture or sub-picture. ANT B can only be displayed as a main picture (ANT B cannot be displayed as a sub-picture).

    This power is for serviceman usage. Upgrade Card This card slot is for future software upgrades. Hitachi will notify you if a software upgrade is required for your TV. In order to receive written notification, please complete and return your warranty card.
  • Page 13 REAR PANEL JACKS CableCARD Slot This slot is for the CableCARD that will be provided by your local cable operator to gain access to chosen cable channels. The CableCARD will allow you to tune digital and high definition cable channels. Please call your local cable operator if this service is available before requesting a CableCARD (also known as Point of Deployment (POD) module).

Check the owner’s manual of each component for the location of video and audio inputs and outputs.

  • Page 21 CONNECTING EXTERNAL VIDEO SOURCES CONNECTING A COMPONENT SOURCE WITH DIGITAL INTERFACE CAPABILITY TO IEEE1394 TERMINALS Connect the IEEE1394 cable from the output of the component with IEEE1394 capability, such as a Set-Top-Box or Digital VCR, to the IEEE1394 input terminals shown on the AVC Center below. IEEE 1394 allows the LCD television and the external device to communicate with one another.
  • Page 22 CONNECTING EXTERNAL AUDIO/VIDEO DEVICES CONNECTING EXTERNAL AUDIO AMPLIFIER To monitor the audio level of the LCD TV to an external audio amplifier, connect the system as shown below. The “OPTICAL OUT” from the AVC center is a fixed output. The Volume of the amplifier is controlled by the amplifier, not by the LCD Television. The OPTICAL OUT terminal outputs all audio sources with Optical IN capability.
  • Page 23 CONNECTING AV NETWORK Your Hitachi LCD Television is equipped with an AV Network feature. This feature helps to control your external Audio/Video equipment (VCR, Set Top Box, DVD, etc.). Once this is setup, it allows your IR Mouse connector to control your equipment using your Hitachi LCD TV Remote Control.

  • Page 29 THE REMOTE CONTROL In addition to controlling all the functions on your HITACHI LCD TV, the new remote control is designed to operate different types of VCRs, CATV (Cable TV) converters, set-top-box, satellite receiver, DVD players, and other audio/video equipment with one touch.

Select Day for day time viewing with more brightness and contrast to compete with room light. Select Night for night time viewing with less brightness and contrast for a more detailed picture (see page 57 for settings changes).

The AV Net allows the user to control external components with the LCD TV’s remote control. When you press the AV NET button, the following window will pop up within the Display Monitor screen.

To reduce the sound to one half of normal volume (SOFT MUTE) to answer the telephone, etc., press the VOL wheel down. Press the VOL wheel again to turn the sound off completely (MUTE).
  • Page 42 PICTURE-IN-PICTURE (PIP) Your HITACHI LCD TV incorporates Two Tuner technology designed for improved viewing enjoyment. This Two Tuner feature allows you to view antenna inputs on both the main picture and sub-picture simultaneously, with separate tuning control for each. ANT A input can be viewed as both the main picture and the sub-picture simultaneously. ANT B can only be viewed as a main picture.
  • Page 43 PICTURE-IN-PICTURE (PIP) PIP MODE PICTURE-IN-PICTURE This feature is only available with a 1080i signal. Main Picture Sub Picture SPLIT MODE PICTURE-IN-PICTURE Split Mode PIP displays the main picture and sub-picture evenly on the screen. Sub Picture Main Picture SURF MODE PICTURE-IN-PICTURE Surf Mode PIP automatically scans all active channels (those set in memory) and displays them as PIP Pictures or Thumbnail channels.
  • Page 44 PICTURE-IN-PICTURE (PIP) PAUSE button If you wish to freeze the sub-picture, press the PAUSE button. This is convenient when trying to write down the address for a mail order company, recording statistics for a sporting event, etc. To return the picture to motion, press the EXIT button. Press the PAUSE button repeatedly to toggle between FREEZE modes (Main Freeze, SPLIT and STROBE).
