TO REMOVE A N D CLEAN CRANKCASE FILTER (TWINS)
The crankcase filter, as shown in illustration 7 is made up from a coarse wire frame
surrounded by a felt fabric.
To remove the filter use a good fitting spanner and unscrew the non-return valve
(illustration 9).
If the valve is difficult to remove run the engine until the crankcase is heated or pre-
ferably after a run on the road.
W i t h the non-return valve released carefully extract the filter from the crankcase.
Clean the filter tunnel with fluff-free rag moistened with petrol, avoid leaving particles
of rag in the tunnel.

PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE

This valve previously fitted in the base of the filter compartment, is now incorporated in
the pump plate, on engines after 8912.
The plunger is retained by a split pin, which should not be disturbed unless the oiling
system is deranged.
TO REMOVE MAGNETIC FILTER—ALL MODELS
Incorporated with the crankcase sump plug is a powerful magnet, which does not require
frequent attention.

Metal particles adhering to the magnet can be removed by wiping with a grease coated
rag, the grease will collect metal particles on the rag.

Wash the filter in petrol, allow it to dry before re-fitting.
