9. Using a Computer as Digital Source
Connecting the HIFACE Evo Two to a computer via its USB ports needs a few
configuration operations by the user.
Fortunately, the HIFACE Evo Two is provided with an USB 2.0 interface which is
compatible with USB Audio Device Class 2. Therefore, Apple and Linux computers
natively support the HIFACE Evo Two , that is they do not need a driver and immediately
recognize the DDC in a plug'n'play fashion. Conversely, a computer provided with a
Microsoft operating system require a suitable driver which can be downloaded from
M2Tech website (www.m2tech.biz).
Below, the procedures to set a computer for music playback by the HIFACE Evo Two are
described. Reader are advised that some details in the described procedures may differ
depending on the operating system version installed on your computer and the player
chosen by the user; the following descriptions are general guidelines to the configuration
of computer and player.
9.1. Plug'n'Play Operation with Apple OSX
As explained in the introductory paragraph to the present chapter, the HIFACE Evo Two is
provided with an USB interface compatible with USB Audio Device Class 2 which is
natively supported by Apple OSX since the 10.6.4 release, without the need for any driver:
It is sufficient to connect the HIFACE Evo Two to own Mac with an USB cable (not in stock)
to have it recognized by the Mac, which will then include it in the audio devices list, as
shown in Fig. 4. Being a bidirectional audio device, the HIFACE Evo Two is listed in both
input (M2Tech USB 2.0 Audio In) and output (M2Tech USB 2.0 Audio Out) devices list.
