Chassis
The mechanical drum brakes on your ATV dissipate heat generated
by the friction of the brake shoes on the drums as the wheels are
slowed.
If the brake lever or brake pedal freeplay does not feel within the
normal range while riding, check the brake shoes for wear
(page 135). Worn shoes should be replaced.
Front Brake Lever Freeplay
Refer to Safety Precautions on page 94.
Inspection
RIGHT HANDLEBAR
(1) front brake lever
Measure the distance the brake lever moves before the brakes start
to take hold. Freeplay, measured at the tip of the front brake lever
(1) should be:
10 – 20 mm (0.4 – 0.8 in)
Adjust the freeplay of the front brake lever with the front wheel
pointed straight ahead.
