Riding mode selection
104
Three riding modes allow the
motorcycle's characteristics to
adapt to the prevailing weather
conditions, the road and traffic,
and the rider's style of riding:
RAIN
ROAD
with Pro driving modes
DYNAMIC
Each riding mode affects the
behavior of the motorcycle in a
different way. The ASC can be
switched off in any mode; the fol-
z
lowing explanations apply exclu-
sively to the system's response
when it is switched on. The last
selected riding mode is reacti-
vated automatically after the igni-
tion is switched off and on again.
The following rule always applies:
selection of progressively more
dynamic riding modes is accom-
panied by a corresponding re-
duction in the support furnished
by ASC.
Therefore, consider the following
when selecting the riding mode:
the more dynamic the setting,
the greater the demands on the
skill of the rider!
Throttle response:
in the RAIN mode: restrained
OE
in the ROAD mode: direct
with Pro driving modes
In DYNAMIC mode: dynamic
RAIN mode
The ASC system intervenes
early enough to prevent the rear
wheel from slipping. The vehi-
cle remains extremely stable on
road surfaces providing high to
moderate coefficients of friction,
and thus adhesion (extending
from dry and wet asphalt to dry
cobblestones), and it is only on
smooth, low-traction road sur-
faces (wet blacktop or wet cob-
blestones) that an obvious ten-
dency toward drift will be noticed
at the rear of the vehicle.
ROAD mode
The point at which the ASC sys-
tem intervenes is later than in
the RAIN mode. The vehicle re-
mains stable on road surfaces
with high to moderate coeffi-
cients of friction (traction) (dry
and wet asphalt as well as dry
OE
cobblestones). Slight rear-wheel
drift is perceptible. Perceptible
uncontrolled motion can be felt
from the rear on slippery road
surfaces (wet blacktop and wet
cobblestones).
with Pro driving modes
DYNAMIC mode
DYNAMIC mode is the most
performance-oriented mode.
The point at which the ASC sys-
tem intervenes is even later,
