  • Page 2 Ni-MH battery. The battery provides a minimum of four hours of operation when fully charged. The PROFLOW 2 respirator has two (2) 40mm threaded inlets on the underside of the blower assembly for the attachment of two (2) air filtration elements.

    THEORY OF OPERATION The SCOTT PROFLOW 2 respirator is a powered air-purifying respirator. The user of the respirator breathes ambient air after the air has passed through a pair of air filtration elements. The air filtration elements include a mechanical filter to trap airborne particles and may include a sorbent bed of impregnated activated carbon to trap and/or neutralize various gases.

    IDENTITY AND CONCENTRATION OF CONTAMINANT MUST BE KNOWN BEFORE USE: The SCOTT PROFLOW 2 respirator may only be used in areas where the identity of the airborne contaminant has been determined, by test, measurement, or other means, and that the air filtration media used is effective in removing the contaminant from the air.

    CLEANING AND INSPECTION section of this instruction. FACEPIECE IDENTIFICATION The SCOTT PROFLOW 2 respirator may be used with a variety of SCOTT full facepieces as shown in the list on page 20. The essential operation of all full facepieces is the same, but certain features are applied differently depending the style of full facepiece.
  • Page 7 Replace the protective cap on the charging connector. Test operation of unit as outlined in the USE OF THE PROFLOW 2 RESPIRA- TOR section this instruction. The PROFLOW 2 respirator is equipped with a digital display to provide status infor- mation about the performance of the blower.
  • Page 8 After start-up, the blower will stabilize at the standard flow rate and the display will begin to alternate between the BATTERY CHARGE STATUS (C#) and the AIR FLOW STATUS (F#). The BATTERY CHARGE STATUS display reading of: C9 to C7 indicates the battery charge is sufficient to provide full duration of the respirator with fresh air filtration elements;...
  • Page 9 DISTORT THE GASKET RESULTING IN LEAKAGE THAT MAY EXPOSE THE WEARER TO SUBSTANCES WHICH CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. The SCOTT PROFLOW 2 respirator has now been prepared for use. Refer to the DONNING PROCEDURES before actual use of the respirator.
  • Page 10 The respirator user must have received training and have practiced this procedure before attempting to use the respirator for respiratory protection. Examine the SCOTT full facepiece to be certain it is complete and in serviceable condition. Check to see that the inhalation and exhalation valves are properly installed and operational.
  • Page 11 EXCESSIVELY TIGHT MAY RESULT IN THE FACEPIECE BEING PULLED FROM THE USER’S FACE EXPOSING THE USER TO THE HAZARDOUS ATMOSPHERE THE RES- PIRATOR WAS INTENDED TO PROTECT AGAINST WHICH MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. The SCOTT PROFLOW 2 respirator is now donned and in standby mode.
  • Page 12 The user must watch the digital display to monitor the battery level and the blower power level while using the PROFLOW 2 respirator. If either status drops below the acceptable level, the warning tone will sound. The user must exit the area requiring respiratory protection, decontaminate if required, and take the appropriate corrective action.

    The SCOTT PROFLOW 2 respirator is a powered air-purifying respirator and must never be used in an atmosphere which is immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH). The PROFLOW 2 respirator may only be used in atmospheres when the user can escape with- out the use of a respirator.

    Termination of use of the respirator occurs when the user leaves the contaminated area and does not intend to make reentry. To terminate the use of the PROFLOW 2 respirator proceed as follows: The respirator removal must be done in a fresh air environment after thorough decontamination.

    Wash with warm (110° F/ 44° C maximum) mild soap or detergent solution. Thor- oughly rinse in clean water. To disinfect, sponge facepiece with a 70% solution of Isopropyl Alcohol. Clean and disinfect using SCOTT Multi-Wash Mini. Follow Instruction 89346-01 supplied with SCOTT Multi-Wash Mini. NOTE A SOFT BRUSH MAY BE USED TO WASH THE HARNESSES, BREATHING TUBE, AND ELASTOMERIC PORTION OF THE FACEPIECE.

  • Page 17 DISPOSAL OF AIR FILTRATION ELEMENTS AND BATTERIES Remove used air filtration elements and dispose of properly. Handle air filtration elements with care. Air filtration elements may contain the contaminant that was in the atmosphere while the air filtration element was being used and must be handled as a contaminated or potentially contaminated object.
