Cleaning the Wheels, Tires and Track
Periodically check the locomotive wheels andpickupsfordirt
andbuildup, whichcancausepoor electrical contact and traction
andprematurely wear outtheneoprenetraction tires. Wheels and
tires can becleanedusingdenatured (not rubbing)alcohol applied
with a cotton swab.
To clean thetrack, use RailKing Track Cleaning Fluid and a clean rag or denatured (not
rubbing) alcohol. Unplug thetransformer and wipetherailsofthetrack,turningtherag
frequentlytoensurethatyouareusingcleanclothontherails. Becausethe
manufacturing processleavesa coatingon RealTrax centerrail, you should clean therails
after the first 30 minutes of use(youmaynoticean electrical smell during initial use as
thecoating wears off; this is normal). Thereafter,keep an eye o n t h e track and clean it
when it gets dirty to ensure good electrical contact and to l engthen the life ofthetires.

Traction Tire Replacement Instructions

Your locomotive isequipped withtwoneoprenerubbertractiontiresontherearset of
flanged drivers. While these tires are extremely durable, you may needtoreplacethemat
some point.

Oncethemotormountscrew has been removed,pullthe

motorawayfromthetruckblockandlightly coatthe motor
worm g ear and bronzedrivegear (inthetruckblock)with
grease.
Reassemblethetruckandmotor,beingcarefulnottopinch

thepickupandgroundwiresbetweenthetruck blockand
motormount.
Repeatthe procedureifenginehasmorethanonemotor.

Reassemblethechassis and body,beingcarefulthatthe
!
wiresarenotcaughtbetweenthe bodyandchassis, as
thiscanleadto a s h ort thatmaydamagetheelectronics
beyondrepair.
! Lubricatetheoutside truckblockidlerand
drivegears with greaseoccasionally.
Removetwoscrewsfrombelow truck side.
!
Removethetruck sides from the truckblock.
!
Make sure the oldtirehasbeencompletely
!
removedfromthegroovein thedrive wheel,
usingarazorbladeorsmallflatheadscrewdriver
to pry awayanyremains.
Clean the grooveusingacottonswaband
!
denatured alcohol.
