    GETTING sTARTED LOCATION Place your VTech 15850 within  metres of the mains power socket and telephone socket so that the cables will reach. Make sure it is at least 1 metre away from other electrical appliances to avoid interference. Your VTech 15850 works by sending radio signals between the base and handset.

  • Page 15 Charge the handset by placing it face forward in the telephone base or charger. The CHARGE light on the handset is on during charging.   • Page 17 Range extender setup (for multi handset packs) To ind the best location for the Range Extender, you need to determine the telephone base coverage area. Stand near the telephone base and make a call. Walk away from the telephone base with the handset. Make a note where the signal becomes weaker.
  • Page 18 Or if you want to mount the Range Extender on a wall: Plug the mains power cable into the Range Extender, thread the cable through the locking slot and then bundle the power cable with a twist tie. Hold the Range Extender in the place where you plan to mount it.

  • Page 20: Power-Fail Backup Mode

    POwER-fAIL bACkUP MODE Power-fail mode allows your telephone system to function in the event of a power outage. The telephone system uses stored power from the handset’s battery to operate. After the power goes out, if there is already a handset with enough charge placed in the telephone base, the telephone system enters battery backup mode automatically.
  • Page 21 Power-fail backup mode operation During power-fail backup mode, the telephone base, answering system and all Bluetooth related features will be disabled. The operating time is subject to the battery level of the handset placed in the telephone base and the actual usage. For optimal performance, you are not recommended to use the handset placed in the telephone base when this mode is on.

    INsTALLATION OPTIONs Your telephone base is ready for tabletop use. If you want to mount your telephone on a wall, follow the steps below to connect the telephone base with a standard dual-stud telephone wall mounting plate. You may need a professional to install the mounting plate.
  • Page 24 Swivel the wall mount bracket down to wall mount position and then push it into the telephone base until it clicks into place. Plug the telephone line cord (or DSL ilter) into the wall jack. Plug the power adapter into a power outlet not controlled by a wall switch.
  • Page 25 Wallmount to tabletop installation If the telephone line cord and power adapter cord are bundled, untie them irst. Push the telephone base up to remove it from the wall. Unplug the telephone line cord (or DSL ilter) from the wall jack. Unplug the power adapter from the power outlet.

    HOME. If you hear a Check for a dial tone by pressing dial tone, the installation is successful. WARNING Do not place your VTech 15850 in the bathroom or other humid areas. IMPORTANT The base station must be plugged into the mains power socket at all times.

    DATE AND TIME If you have subscribed to a Network Calling Number Display service, the date and time are set automatically with each incoming call. The date and time is recorded with each answering machine message you receive. If you have not subscribed to a Network Calling Number Display Service you can set the date and time manually.

    • If you experience poor sound quality, place your mobile phone closer to the VTech 15850 to ensure strong Bluetooth signal strength. Make sure there are no physical obstacles between the VTech 15850 and the mobile phone, such as large furniture or thick walls.

    To use a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone with your VTech 15850, you must irst pair and connect it with the telephone base. All VTech 15850 handsets can be used to make or answer on the mobile phone line.

    ADD A bLUETOOTH-ENAbLED MObILE PHONE Before you begin, make sure that you have mobile coverage and your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone is not connected to any other Bluetooth devices. Refer to your mobile phone user's manual to learn how to search for or add new Bluetooth devices.
