  • Page 3 BIENVENIDOS a la familia HERGÓM. Agradecemos la distinción que nos ha dispensado con la elección de nuestra ESTUFA DE LEÑA SHELBURNE. Todas sus piezas están construidas en hierro fundido, que garantizan una larga vida de servicio. Tenemos la seguridad de que su nueva estufa habrá de proporcionarle múltiples satisfacciones, que son el mayor aliciente de nuestro equipo.
  • Page 4 1.- PRESENTACIÓN La estufa de Leña SHELBURNE tiene las siguientes características principales:  Construida totalmente en hierro fundido, con piezas ensambladas, selladas con cordón cerámico y atornilladas entre sí.  Hogar de alta capacidad forrado de ladrillo refractario  Permite leña de hasta 48 cm. de longitud.
  • Page 5 La estufa mod. SHELBURNE, produce un calor suave, uniforme y radiante que le permite alcanzar un agradable confort en su vivienda.
  • Page 6 Hay otros factores que afectan al tiro: - Casas muy aisladas interiormente, sin corrientes de aire; al no entrar aire en la estufa causa un tiro deficiente. Esto se corrige mandando aire del exterior hacia la estufa. - Árboles y/o edificios altos próximos a la vivienda. - La velocidad del viento.
  • Page 7 Las ventajas de la chimenea metálica son:  Fácil instalación.  Permite dar ligeros cambios de dirección a la chimenea, lo que facilita mayor flexibilidad en la elección del lugar donde instalar la estufa.  Debido a que existen codos curvados, se eliminan los ángulos vivos que dificultan el tiro.
  • Page 8 D.- ALGUNAS NORMAS A continuación indicamos otras normas que deben respetarse en la construcción de la chimenea: a) Emplear materiales resistentes e incombustibles. No montar tubos de fibrocemento. b) Escoger un trazado lo más vertical posible. No conectar varios aparatos a la misma chimenea.
  • Page 9 e) Es muy importante que las uniones de los tubos estén muy bien selladas para tapar las posibles fisuras que permitan la entrada de aire. Fig.-9 f) Para comprobar la estanqueidad de la chimenea, se recomienda tapar la salida en el tejado e introducir papeles con paja húmeda por la parte inferior de la chimenea.
  • Page 10 h) Que los sombreretes no dificulten el tiro. Fig.-12 Limpiar la chimenea por lo menos una vez al año. Fig.-13 j) La unión de los tubos que forman la chimenea, en el caso de tubos metálicos sencillos, deben ser sellados con masilla refractaria. Cada tubo debe encajar con el siguiente, de forma que se evite que la creosota que pueda formarse salga al exterior.
  • Page 11 3.- FUNCIONAMIENTO Una vez que su estufa SHELBURNE ha sido instalada, y conectada a la chimenea, está preparada para encender el fuego.  ¡CUIDADO!: SE PRODUCE CALOR EN LA OPERACIÓN. MANTENGA ALEJADOS A LOS NIÑOS, ROPAS Y MUEBLES. EL CONTACTO PUEDE PRODUCIR QUEMADURAS SUPERFICIALES.
  • Page 12 B.- COMBUSTIBLES Su estufa de leña SHELBURNE está diseñada para quemar solamente leña de maderas duras de alto poder calorífico. PRECAUCIÓN NO UTILICE FLUIDOS QUÍMICOS O INFLAMABLES COMO LA GASOLINA, NAFTALINA, QUEROSENO, GASÓLEOS, ACEITES, PELLETS, CARBON, MADERA ARTIFICIAL, O CUALQUIER OTRO MATERIAL PARA ENCENDER SU ESTUFA. NO QUEMAR BASURA.
  • Page 13 Si lo considera necesario, abra alguna ventana para ventilar la habitación. Los humos y gases normalmente persisten durante los 10 ó 20 primeros minutos del encendido. Los olores y humos desaparecerán cuando la estufa esté “curada”. En los primeros encendidos pueden producirse otros olores de los materiales que existen en la zona cercana a la estufa.
  • Page 14 Para realizar un encendido normal, proceda de la siguiente forma: a) Abra la puerta y sitúe un par de pastillas de encendido sobre el fondo del hogar. Coloque unas astillas cruzadas sobre las pastillas. Las astillas serán aproximadamente unas 10 piezas de 10/15 mm de diámetro y de 25/40 cm. de longitud b) Abra completamente el control de aire primario empujando la leva hacia el frente.
  • Page 15 Corregir una situación de fuego excesivo de la siguiente manera: o TIRO EXCESIVO: Contactar con su proveedor para que tome lectura de su tiro. Un tiro que exceda de 2,5 mm.c.a. requiere una válvula corta tiro en la chimenea. o COMBUSTIBLE INAPROPIADO: No queme carbón, montones de astillas secas, troncos encerados o cualquier otro que no sea la madera natural recomendada.
  • Page 16 B.- JUNTAS Las juntas, normalmente deben cambiarse cada 2 ó 3 estaciones de uso, dependiendo de la utilización de la estufa. Si el sellado de la puerta se pierde, una nueva junta asegura el sellado adecuado y mejora el funcionamiento de la estufa. Contacte con su proveedor para que le suministre un juego de juntas para su estufa.
  • Page 17 Contacte con su proveedor para reemplazar el cristal, con las instrucciones y piezas necesarias para la reparación. Si reemplaza el cristal Vd. mismo, use guantes de trabajo y gafas de seguridad. El procedimiento para el cambio de cristales y juntas de cristal es el siguiente: 1.
  • Page 18 E.- HIERRO FUNDIDO Las piezas de hierro fundido exteriores están vitrificadas con esmalte brillante o mate de varios colores. Las piezas de hierro esmaltado pueden limpiarse con un limpia cristales corriente. Con el uso, una muy fina red sutil de grietas lineales pueden aparecer visibles bajo la superficie del esmalte.
  • Page 19 Si su chimenea de albañilería fue construida sin una trampilla o puerta de limpieza, entonces las inspecciones se realizarán desde el punto de conexión de su estufa con la chimenea. 2.- LIMPIEZA La manera más efectiva de limpieza de la chimenea es por medio de cepillos deshollinadores apropiados.

    WELCOME to the HERGÓM family. We would like to thank you for the distinction you have made by choosing our SHELBURNE WOOD BURNING STOVE. All of its parts are made of cast iron to guarantee a long working life. We are sure your new stove will give you satisfaction on many occasions, which is the greatest attraction of our equipment.

    1.- PRESENTATION The SHELBURNE Wood burning stove has the following main characteristics:  Made completely of cast iron, with assembled parts sealed with ceramic beading and screwed together.  High capacity fireplace lined with refractory brick  Capacity for firewood up to 48 cm. in length.

    The SHELBURNE mod. Stove produces a gentle, uniform and radiant heat that leads to pleasant comfort in your home.

  • Page 27: Creosote Formation And Cleaning

    Other factors affect the draught: - Houses with extremely indoor insulation, without air currents: with no air entering the stove, the draught is affected. This is correct by sending air from outside to the stove. - Trees and/or tall buildings close to the home. - The wind speed.

  • Page 28: C.- Connecting The Chimney

    The advantages of metal chimneys are:  Easy installation.  Slight changes in chimney direction can be made, leading to greater flexibility in the choice of location for the stove.  Due to there being curved elbow joint, sharp edges that make draught difficult are removed.

  • Page 29: D.- Some Standards

    Bear in mind that the tubes may pass through ceilings and walls. This must always be done using insulated tubes and suitable accessories. (See Fig. 4) D.- SOME STANDARDS Below are other standards that must be respected when building the chimney: a) Use resistant and non-combustible materials.
  • Page 30 e) It is very important for the tube joints to be well sealed to cover possible cracks that allow air to enter. Fig.-9 f) To check the airtightness of the chimney, cover the roof end and introduce paper with damp straw into the chimney. Fig.-10 g) It is very important for the chimney to stand out by more than one metre from the highest part of the house.
  • Page 31 h) The cowls must not hinder the draught. Fig.-12 Clean the chimney at least once a year. Fig.-13 j) The joints of the tubes forming the chimney, in the event of using simple metal tubes, must be sealed using refractory filler. Each tube must fit into the next to prevent any creosote from reaching the outside.

    3.- OPERATING Once your SHELBURNE stove has been installed and connected to the chimney, you are ready to light the fire.  BE CAREFUL!: THIS OPERATION PRODUCES HEAT. KEEP CHILDREN, CLOTHING AND FURNITURE AT A DISTANCE. CONTACT WITH THE STOVE MAY CAUSE SKIN BURNS.

    B.- FUELS Your SHELBURNE wood burning stove is only designed to burn hardwood with a high calorific power. PRECAUTION DO NOT USE CHEMICAL FLUIDS OR INFLAMMABLES SUCH AS PETROL, NAPHTALENE, KEROSENE, DIESEL OILS, OILS, PELLETS, ARTIFICIAL WOOD OR ANY OTHER MATERIAL TO LIGHT YOUR STOVE. DO NOT BURN RUBBISH.

  • Page 34: Normal Lighting

    This is normal due to the evaporation of the paint and oil components used to make the stove. Where considered necessary, open a window to ventilate the room. The smoke and gas will normally remain for the first 10 or 20 minutes after lighting. The smells and smoke will disappear when the stove is “seasoned”.

  • Page 35: Combustion Level

    For normal lighting, proceed as follows: g) Open the door and place a couple of lighting tablets on the base of the fireplace. Cross some kindling over the tablets. The kindling will be around 10 pieces with a diameter of 10/15 mm and a length of 25/40 cm. h) Open the primary air control fully by pushing the lever forwards.

    Correct a situation of excessive fire in the following way: o EXCESSIVE DRAUGHT: Contact your supplier to read your draught. Draught in excess of 2.5 mm.c.a. requires a draught cutting valve in the chimney. o UNSUITABLE FUEL: Do not burn coal, mounds of dry kindling, waxes logs or another other that is not the natural wood recommended.

    B.- JOINTS The joints must normally be changed every 2 or 3 seasons of use, depending on the use of the stove. If the seal on the door is lost, a new joint ensures a suitable seal and improves the working order of the stove. Contact your supplier for a set of joints for your stove.

  • Page 38: D.- Collecting And Disposing Of Ashes

    Contact your supplier to replace the glass, with the necessary instructions and parts for the repair. If you replace the glass yourself, use work gloves and safety goggles. The procedure to change the glass and glass joints is as follows: 9.

  • Page 39: E.- Cast Iron

    E.- CAST IRON The external cast iron parts are fire-on with shiny or matt enamel in various colours. Enamelled iron parts can be cleaned using normal glass cleaner. With use, a very fine network of linear cracks may become visible under the surface of the enamel. These cracks are natural, due to the cooling and heating processes and do not represent a fault.

    2.- CLEANING The most effective way of cleaning the chimney is by using suitable chimney brushes. The brushes must be as tight fitting as possible to the chimney section. To delay general cleaning, we recommend the periodic use of the HERGÓM Anti-soot product, which can be found in any of our Distributors.

    If these surfaces are suitably protected, the distances may be reduced. (Fig.-15) These same distances may be respected when the covering of walls or nearby areas is susceptible to damage or deformity by the temperature (varnishes, paints, P.V.C., etc.).   • Page 50 ALCUNE NORME Sono riportate di seguito altre norme che devono essere rispettate per la costruzione della canna fumaria: a) Utilizzare materiali resistenti ed incombustibili. Non montare tubi di eternit. b) Scegliere un tracciato il più verticale possibile. Non collegare più apparecchi alla stessa canna fumaria.
  • Page 51 e) È molto importante che gli attacchi dei tubi siano sigillati molto bene per evitare eventuali fenditure che consentono l'entrata dell'aria.
