Roadside emergencies
Mount for rear towing eye
When towing always drive off
slowly and smoothly without
jerking the towing vehicle.
Excessive tow rope tension could
result in damage to either vehicle.
The ignition key must be
set to position II when the
vehicle is being towed so that the
steering, direction indicator lights
and brake lights are fully
operational. Since the brake servo
and the power steering do not
operate with the engine switched
off, you will need to exert greater
force to the brake pedal and
steering wheel. Make allowances
for the increased braking distance
and heavier steering.

Starting manual transmission
vehicles by towing or pushing
To prevent damage to the
catalytic converter you
must not push or tow start your
vehicle when the engine is at
operating temperature. Use
jump leads and a booster battery.
It is possible to start the cold
engine by towing or pushing the
vehicle.
• Turn the ignition key to
position II.
• Depress the accelerator pedal.
• Depress the clutch pedal and
select third gear.
• Have the vehicle towed or pushed
and release the clutch pedal slowly.
It may be difficult to start a cold
diesel engine by pushing or towing
the vehicle, as the cold starting
system cannot be activated if the
battery is flat.
