TRAILER TOWING
If your vehicle has a
detachable towball arm,
always remove it when driving
without a trailer.
The maximum vehicle and trailer
payloads represent technically
binding values for gradients up to
12 % and at an altitude of
1,000 metres above sea level.
In high altitude regions, thinner
atmosphere can reduce engine
performance so the following
restrictions will apply:
Above 1,000 metres the stipulated
maximum permitted gross train
weight must be reduced by 10 %
for every 1,000 metres in altitude.
Steep gradients
Change down in plenty of time
before downhill gradients.
Remember the limited effect of the
trailer brakes. Only use the foot
brake in short intervals to avoid
overheating the brakes. If you have
automatic transmission, move the
selector lever to position 1 when
going up or down steep hills.
The overrun brake on a
trailer is not controlled by
the anti-lock braking system.
Detachable towball arm
Never leave the detached
towball arm unsecured
inside the vehicle. This would
increase the risk of injury in an
accident.
To mount the towball arm, remove
the cover (3- and 5-door models
only) located in the apron beneath
the rear bumper. Remove both
screws and the cover carefully.
