The display and keypad are backlit at a low level to conserve power
when no one is using the device. This low level is sufficient to read the
display at night. As soon as a customer touches a key, the display
comes on to full brightness, making it easier to read the instructions.
The messages described instruct the customer to "Press * to begin". The
customer starts the code entry by pressing the * key. The keypad will go
through all of the security checks described in the previous section
before allowing the customer to enter his or her code. If all of the security
checks pass then the key[ad will show the following message asking the
customer to enter his or her code.

YOUR ACCESS CODE
PRESS # WHEN DONE
The customer enters their access code and presses the # key. The keypad
sends the code to the controller and waits for a response. The message on
the display will change to the following while waiting for a response.
* PLEASE WAIT *
VERIFYING ACCESS
When the keypad receives a response from the controller it will show the
response message in the display. The messages that can be received
from the controller vary depending on the type of response. The various
response messages are shown in the Access Response Messages
section.

Connecting to a Gate Operator
