Section 3 - Disassembly and Reassembly

General Guidelines, Tools and Cautions

Guidelines

These instructions describe disassembly and reassembly of the 455's main components:
Camera Body, Handgrip, Viewfinder, Electronic Flash and Shutter.
Follow the order of the circled numbers ( 1
the disassembly sequence and reassemble in the reverse order unless stated otherwise.
Text instructions denoted by a
notes — not the sequence of disassembly.
Other numbers or letters on the drawings identify specific parts referred to in the text.
If further disassembly beyond that described here is required, refer to the exploded views
(Plate 1, 2, etc.) in the Parts Catalog: all components contained in an assembly are
shown on these Plates.
Shutter Mechanism Note
Many Shutter parts can be serviced without removing the entire Shutter Assembly
from the Camera. For example, all mechanical components, switches and the release
magnet on the front of the shutter are accessible after removing only the lenses,
decorative cover and front panel assembly. Also, on the back of the shutter, the motor
disk on which the motor is mounted can be removed without removing the rest of the
shutter mechanism from the camera, simplifying motor replacement. Only the pack
film holder frame assembly and light baffle frame need to be removed from the back of
the camera. Motor replacement does require removing the motor disk, however, since
the motor mounting screws are inserted from the underside of the disk. If internal
shutter components such as the light interception, shutter or diaphragm blades must
be serviced, refer to Replacing the Motor procedure of this section.
Flash Unit Note
The 455 Flash Unit can be removed as a complete assembly, if desired. Nuts securing
the left and right Holders to the top of the Camera are accessible from the top underside
of the Camera interior; removing these nuts, and disconnecting wiring to the unit,
allows separation of the Flash from the Camera (See Removing the Electronic Flash
Assembly procedure).
