PROBLEMS
(SYMPTOMS)
The engine will not go to high idle
when using the auxiliary power.
Auxiliary power is normal when the
IDLER switch is in the "HIGH" posi-
tion. Automatic idle function works
properly when the welding termi-
nals are loaded
The engine will not go to high idle
when attempting to weld or when
the auxiliary power is loaded.
Welding output and auxiliary power
outputs are normal when IDLER
switch is in the " HIGH" position
If for any reason you do not understand the test procedures or are unable to perform the tests/repairs safely,
contact the Lincoln Electric Service Department for technical troubleshooting assistance before you proceed.

TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIR
POSSIBLE AREAS OF
MISADJUSTMENT(S)
ENGINE PROBLEMS
1. Make sure the auxiliary power
leads are tight.
2. The automatic idler may not
function if the auxiliary power is
loaded to less than 150 watts.
1. Make sure the welding cables
and auxiliary power lead con-
nections are tight.
CAUTION
VANTAGE® 500
RECOMMENDED
COURSE OF ACTION
1. Check the current sensing
toroid for loose or faulty con-
nections.
See the Wiring
Diagram.
2. Make sure leads #3 and #6A
pass through the toroid twice in
opposite directions.
3. The current sensing toroid may
be faulty.
4. Pull coil board may be faulty
5. The Weld Control PC board
may be faulty.
6. Tier II Cummins governor con-
trol board may be faulty- mis-
adjusted governor linkage see
EGC test & adjustment
1. The Weld Control PC board
may be faulty.
2. Pull coil board may be faulty
3. Tier II Cummins Governor
Control may be faulty.
