OCTAVIA 1997 2,0 l/85 kW Engine, Fuel Injection and Ignition System
Test conditions
•
Vehicle stopped
•
On vehicles with an automatic gearbox the selector le-
ver must be in position „P" or „N"
•
All electrical components such as headlights and rear
window heater, must be switched off.
•
Intake air temperature less than 60 °C measured val-
ue block 004, display field 4
•
Coolant temperature at least 80 °C measured value
block 004, display field 3
Procedure
–
Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-, switch
ignition on and enter address word 01 „Engine elec-
tronics" Chapter 01-1.
Note
It is essential to carry out the individual steps in the cor-
rect order, otherwise the readiness code cannot be suc-
cessfully generated.
1. step: Interrogating fault memory
Readout on display:
–
Enter function 02 „Interrogate fault memory" and con-
firm entry with key.
Q
The number of stored faults or „No fault recognised" ap-
pears in the display.
If a fault is stored in the memory:
–
Rectify the faults displayed by referring to the fault ta-
ble Chapter 01-2,
If no fault is stored:
–
Press key.
2. step: Erasing fault memory
–
Enter function 05 „Erase fault memory" and confirm
entry with the key.

Note
Readiness code is erased each time the fault memory is
erased.
Readout on display:
Note
If the ignition is switched off between „Interrogating fault
memory" and „Erasing fault memory", the fault memory is
then not erased.
3. step: Adapting throttle valve control unit to engine
control unit
