Probable Cause
HOC (height-of-cut) settings are lower than normal.
The reel-to-bedknife adjustment is different from one
side of a cutting unit to the other side or from one
cutting unit to another unit
Turf is not level and the mower can not follow the turf.
Grass is higher than the cutting unit capacity.
Cut (ground) speed is higher than the mower can cut.

Scalping is a condition in which areas of grass are cut
shorter than the adjacent areas. The area can be light
green or brown. A low HOC setting or turf that is not level
can cause scalping.
Check and adjust the HOC settings.
Check the reel-to-bedknife adjustment.
Change the direction of cut.
Cut the grass more frequently.
Reduce the cut (ground) speed.
