Setting Color Spaces In The Camera - Nikon D300 Complete Manual

Note: I used the words color profile in that last bullet. So what's a
color profile? It's a description of how a device deviates
from (or adheres to) a Color Space definition. In essence, a
color profile defines both the Color Space used and tells
software how the device's data may deviate from the
precise definitions expected by the Color Space. That's one
reason why "profile" and "space" get so mixed up in
descriptions of color. More information on this is on my

If you have doubts about whether you've got the right settings
in each of your programs, shoot a standard color reference in
known lighting with the proper white balance setting, such as
the GretagMacbeth ColorChecker chart in sunlight with the
camera set to the Direct sunlight white balance setting. Then
watch for shifts in color as you bring the resulting image
through your workflow. If your monitor is calibrated correctly
and your programs set to the right color space settings, you
shouldn't see any color shifts from original to on-screen final
version.

Setting Color Spaces in the Camera

To set the Color Space your camera uses:

1. Press the MENU button to see the menu system.
2. Use the Direction pad to navigate to the SHOOTING
menu (the green camera tab).
3. Use the Direction pad to navigate to the Color Space
item and press the > key on the Direction pad to select
it.
